5. President’s Report and Old Business
Mr. Billington introduced Bob Dombrowski
he noted the Blackstone Valley Explorer was in the river in
Central Falls and running fine and he updated the Board on
the fundraiser he is leading on behalf of the Explorer. He
outlined the efforts of his hard-working committee and was
pleased that the Blackstone Nightclub owned by Board Member
LeFrancois was offering its use at no cost. Mr. Dombrowski
offered tickets for the June 30 fundraiser for the Board to
sell. The Board thanked Mr. Dombrowski for all of his
leadership and the efforts of the Committee. The Board
requested that the tickets noted a raffle was being held and
that legal permission should be sought to obtain a license
for the raffle.
Dave Balfour discussed the cost of
running the Tour RI program and felt that costs of labor
that are contributed by the Tourism Council and the other
tourism districts should be recovered. Billington noted that
he had a plan to discuss this with the Tour RI Committee.
Billington explained that with a contribution from Helen
Moroney, and in an effort to raise cash the Tourism Council
was ready to launch a product line of Salsa and Dynamite
Sauce along with it’s Coffee Syrup.
Dave Richards asked if the Explorer was
coming to Woonsocket this year? Billington noted that he was
still trying to make that happen but that it was not in the
current business plan for the Explorer but to the fact that
it is a bare-bones schedule of operations.
He noted that he hoped the Canal Boat Samuel Slater would be
able to float this year with the help of other organizations
with funds
Billington asked members to please help with finding golfers
for the Golf Tournament.
